Bahir Dar, September 24, 2019 E.C. (Amhara Region Supreme Court)
The second annual conference of judges of the Amhara Region Courts, which has been underway since September 20, 2019 E.C. under the theme “Expanding Access and excellence in Judicial Service,” continued today with training aimed at strengthening judges’ understanding of the legal framework and application of the Amhara Regional State Rural Land Administration and Use Proclamation No. 310/2018, as amended.
The training was delivered by Hon. Judge W/ro Saba Abere, Senior Judge of the Amhara Regional Supreme Court.
The training focused on key legal and justice-related issues arising under the Proclamation, including landholding rights, land administration and registration, land-use rights, land-related disputes, evidence, and the responsibilities of the judiciary and other relevant institutions.
Among the major issues explained in detail by Hon. Judge W/ro Saba Abere were the nature of rural land, the right to acquire land, land inheritance, donation, lease, and other landholding rights, as well as the practical application of the law.
The training also emphasized that, given the significant impact of land on the national economy and its role as a means of livelihood and a foundation of existence for the majority of the population, land-related cases should be adjudicated with due diligence and efficiency.
The training was designed to enhance judges’ knowledge and practical skills in interpreting and applying the Proclamation consistently and competently. It is also expected to contribute to ensuring that land-related disputes receive fair, timely, predictable, and quality resolutions.
Participating judges shared their views and comments on the training and raised questions on various issues. The questions were further addressed and clarified by the trainer, as well as by the leadership and judges of the Supreme Court.
The Second Annual Conference of Judges of the Amhara Region Courts will continue tomorrow with various training sessions on different thematic areas.
