The Amhara Region Supreme Court is fundamentally improving the judicial and justice system of the region, by building an institution where the client can trust, use the judicial services with confidence and receives modern judicial services.

The Supreme Court is working to reduce the cost, inconvenience, time and effort of clients, and to ensure that courts are accessible to the community in all areas of the region, both physically and in terms of service quality, so that the client can reach the community and the community can benefit and own the service. In this regard, the media is playing a major role in promoting and creating awareness.

The Supreme Court has provided training to members of the Ethiopian Media Professional Women Association of Amhara Region on how and when to report court cases, and on the reform and improvement of courts, in order to ensure that the media’s reporting on court cases complies with the principles of judicial procedure.

The President of the Amhara Region Supreme Court, Honorable Ato Alemante Agidew, who inaugurated the training, said that courts and media are institutions that are guided by a common professional ethics and play a significant role in building a democratic system, establishing the rule of law, and ensuring social and equal rights in the country.

The Honorable President said that while preparing the training, we are working to continuously work together and closely for one goal based on the professional ethics of the judiciary and journalism. He said that the court is working to fundamentally improve the judicial and general justice system of the region, to establish an alternative judicial system where clients can trust, to ensure that their commercial and investment cases are heard in a shorter and faster time while preserving their trade secrets, and to gradually make modern judicial service delivery accessible to all courts of the region. He added that the media is responsible for promoting and informing the public about the changes that have been initiated and for the society to benefit from the services.

The training aims to create awareness on how the media should report in a manner that respects the independence of the courts and the rights of litigants, said Honorable Ato Alemante Agidew, and how the decisions of the courts should be accessible to the public in a manner that is significant in the process of building a country’s economic, social and democratic system.

The training on court cases reporting was given by Mrs. Kidist G/hiwot, Senior Judge and Director of Public Relations of the Supreme Court, while Ato Frew Tadesse, Director of Strategic Affairs of the Amhara Region Supreme Court, explained to the media professionals who attended the training the former status of the regional courts, the current process of radical change and reform, and the future focuses of the Supreme Court.
