The Amhara Region Supreme Court is implementing concrete reforms to significantly improve the judicial and justice services in the region.

The Supreme Court, which is engaged in the development of modern judicial service infrastructure and comprehensive sustainable institution building, is working to increase the capacity of court leaders, judges and staff at all levels, based on the principle that the foundation of everything is competent leadership, judges and staff.

The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Supreme Court with the Ethiopian Capital Market Administrative tribunal is part of this capacity building initiative; it will help judges, prosecutors and other legal entities to have sufficient knowledge of national and international laws related to the capital market.

The agreement was signed by the President of the Amhara Region Supreme Court, His Excellency Ato Alemante Agidew and the Presiding Judge of the Ethiopian Capital Market Administrative tribunal, Ato Abinet Zerefu.

“The President of the Supreme Court, whose experience, foresight and commitment to introducing new ideas in the high institutions he has previously worked in, and his strong desire for the regional judges, prosecutors and other legal experts to have sufficient knowledge of the capital market, which is new to our country, have led us to work in cooperation with the Supreme Court”  Ato Abinet said. The Presiding Judge also added that, the agreement will help the regional legal bodies to be familiar with national and international capital market laws.

Ato Abinet said that the capital market allows the wealth to move easily from one region to another, from one country to another, and the agreement will help to produce human resources to manage this wealth properly.

The Presiding Judge said, “We are grateful for the opportunity to work with you. The agreement we have made with the Supreme Court and the capacity building training we are providing to the judges, prosecutors and other legal entities of the region based on the agreement will be a model for other regions.”

“Our Supreme Court signed the agreement with the Ethiopian Capital Market Administrative tribunal to build the capacity of the judges and legal professionals of the region on the capital market and other laws”. The President of the Amhara Region Supreme Court, Honorable Ato Alemante Agidew, said, “For a country that is in the process of economic and judicial service delivery reform, the agreement will enable the ground to be laid for the reform works that have been started in these areas.”

The Honorable President said that, it is necessary for legal institutions to be aware of national and international laws related to the sector so that the capital market can play its part in the economic development of the country by working independently and protecting the rights of shareholders and investors. He said that the cooperation agreement signed by the two institutions to strengthen the capacity of legal professionals will enable them to play their part as a region and as a country in the ongoing reform and improvement works.

After the signing ceremony, Honorable Ato Alemante Agidew officially launched the training provided by the Administrative tribunal to the regional judiciary and justice bodies.
