Dr. Belete Molla, Minister of Innovation and Technology of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, has commended the Amhara Regional Supreme Court for its remarkable achievements in technology and the modernization of judicial services.
Dr. Belete made the remarks while visiting the Justice Museum established at the headquarters of the Amhara Regional Supreme Court. He said his visit to the museum provided him with an important opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Ethiopia’s history of justice.
The Minister particularly praised the Court’s technological development and digitalization initiatives undertaken alongside its core judicial functions. He noted that the Court’s experience demonstrates how national policies and strategies can be effectively translated into concrete institutional-level action.
Among the Court’s notable achievements, Dr. Belete highlighted the digitization of historical justice records, the development of digital justice infrastructure, the construction of modern courtrooms equipped to facilitate transparent and remote hearings, and the establishment of one-stop digital services and a call center.
According to the Minister, these initiatives represent some of the major manifestations of the Court’s institutional transformation.
“The work I have seen demonstrates the extent to which national policies and strategies are being translated into practice,” Dr. Belete said.
He expressed his appreciation to the Amhara Regional Supreme Court, particularly its senior leadership, for its efforts in expanding technological infrastructure and digitizing historical records.
Dr. Belete further noted that the Court’s paperless judicial services and other reform initiatives are contributing not only to the modernization of judicial services but also to improving the satisfaction and experience of court users.
“I have no doubt that the work we have seen will go beyond the region and serve as an inspiration to many at the national level,” Dr. Belete Molla said.
The Justice Museum was officially inaugurated in the presence of H.E. Arega Kebede, President of the Amhara Regional Government, Dr. Belete Molla, Minister of Innovation and Technology, and other senior federal and regional government officials.
In addition to the museum’s inauguration ceremony, the visiting officials toured the Court’s digitalization infrastructure, modern courtrooms, one-stop digital service center, call center, and other institutional transformation initiatives.
During the ceremony, it was emphasized that the Amhara Region Supreme Court’s achievements in digital justice, preservation and digitization of historical records, and modernization of judicial services could provide valuable lessons and serve as a model for other justice sector institutions.
