A delegation led by the President conducted an official working visit to selected judicial and legal institutions in Europe and Asia. The visit aimed to draw practical experience to reinforce judicial reform initiatives underway at national and regional levels, and to create platforms for future collaboration with international partners. The President described the discussions and visits as productive and outcome-oriented.
During the mission, the delegation visited institutions in Singapore, Hong Kong, France, and the Netherlands. In Singapore, the team met with the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), Maxwell Chambers, and the Supreme Court of Singapore. In Hong Kong, meetings were held with the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), the Hong Kong International Legal Talent Training Office, and the Department of Justice.
In Europe, the delegation visited the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Paris Arbitration Center in France, as well as the Permanent Court of Arbitration and The Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands.
The President also held high-level discussions with senior officials including Gloria Lim of SIAC, Professor Teresa Cheng of the International Organization for Mediation, Joanne Lau of HKIAC, Dr. James Ding of the Hong Kong International Legal Training Office, Claudia Salomon of ICC, Hafez Virjee of the Paris Arbitration Center, Garth Schofield of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, and Anna Vasilyeva of The Hague Academy of International Law, among others.
During the meetings, the President presented Ethiopia’s ongoing legal and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening access to justice, modernizing courts, and promoting alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. He highlighted Ethiopia’s strategic advantages, including its role as host to the African Union and other international organizations, strong global connectivity through Ethiopian Airlines, and ongoing economic and legal reforms, as key factors supporting the country’s ambition to become a regional arbitration hub.
The President emphasized that partnerships with international institutions would enhance capacity building, technical support, and experience sharing, benefiting all parties involved. He also expressed appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the delegation.
Representatives of the visited institutions welcomed Ethiopia’s reform efforts and expressed their willingness to collaborate in areas such as professional capacity building, technical assistance, and knowledge exchange to support the development of the justice sector.
