The Amhara Regional Supreme Court is currently undergoing a comprehensive transformative process aimed at fundamentally improving the delivery of judicial services across the courts in the region.

The Court is undertaking multifaceted initiatives to strengthen the regional judiciary and the overall justice system, with the goal of ensuring public trust and confidence. To reinforce these efforts, the Court is actively collaborating with various partner institutions and stakeholders to enhance judicial services.

As part of these efforts, discussions were held with the Ambassador of Türkiye to Ethiopia, H.E Ambassador Berk Baran, on areas of mutual cooperation to improve the delivery of judicial and justice services in the region.

During the discussion, the Supreme Court presented its vision of building a model judiciary. It highlighted ongoing initiatives to ensure accessibility of courts not only through physical presence but also by expanding technological accessibility, thereby transforming courts into modern judicial service centers. The Court also emphasized the importance of strengthening Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms and their role in promoting economic development and sustainable peace. Particular attention has been given to the recognition and organization of customary courts, as well as capacity-building efforts within these institutions. Furthermore, the Court stressed the importance of sustainable human resource development and discussed the progress and effectiveness of the comprehensive reform and transformation initiatives currently underway.

H.E Ambassador Berk Baran expressed his appreciation for the deep rooted reform measures being implemented by the Amhara Region Supreme Court, noting that the progress achieved so far and the plans in place are guided by a clear and structured implementation framework. He acknowledged that the Court is on a strong path toward achieving its vision and emphasized that meaningful results can be achieved through cooperation and support for the Court’s ongoing initiatives.

The President of the Amhara Region Supreme Court, Honorable Alemante Agidew, expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for taking the time to understand the Court’s plans and for his willingness to work collaboratively. He also extended an invitation to the Ambassador to be part of this historic transformation journey and to contribute to strengthening the justice system in the region, as the Court works toward building a model judiciary.
