Bahir Dar, September 30, 2019 E.C. (Amhara Region Supreme Court)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Forum of Legal Interpreters plays a vital role in modernizing the administration of justice and improving judicial services across Ethiopia by strengthening experience-sharing, cooperation, and coordination between federal and regional courts, said Hon. Alemante Agidew, President of the Amhara Region Supreme Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He made the remarks in his welcoming address at the opening of the National Forum of Legal Interpreters\u2019 Special Conference, held in Bahir Dar on September 30, 2019 E.C. The conference was attended by Hon. Tewodros Mihret, President of the Federal Supreme Court, presidents of regional supreme courts, and presidents of the appellate courts of the Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa city administrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hon. Alemante explained that, beyond the reform initiatives independently undertaken by federal and regional courts, the forum provides a valuable opportunity for them to come together, share best practices, identify common challenges, and strengthen coordinated efforts. Such collaboration, he noted, would not only expand access to judicial services across regional boundaries but also contribute to making the administration of justice more modern and effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further emphasized that the forum would help institutionalize and sustain the achievements made through judicial transformation, while establishing a model of coordinated work that could serve as an example for other sectors of the justice system. He added that the forum could also positively influence efforts to strengthen coordination and coherence between the legislative and executive branches of government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the broader social and economic responsibilities of the judiciary, Hon. Alemante stated that the judicial system plays a critical role in upholding the rule of law, protecting human rights and freedoms, creating a conducive environment for trade and investment, and safeguarding peace and security within society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To effectively discharge these responsibilities, he stressed the importance of safeguarding judicial independence and accountability while providing justice seekers with services that are impartial, affordable, timely, and of high quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hon. Alemante also reaffirmed the Amhara Region Supreme Court\u2019s commitment to working closely with the Federal Supreme Court, other regional supreme courts, and city administration courts to strengthen the forum and ensure its continuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concluded by underscoring that the National Forum of Legal Interpreters serves as a platform for fostering collective efforts to modernize the administration of justice, strengthen judicial independence and accountability, and make judicial services more accessible and effective for the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
