The Amhara Region Supreme Court has held a workshop to review the implementation of judicial and justice sector reforms, assess the effectiveness of service delivery, and discuss future areas of cooperation among justice institutions.
The workshop brought together senior and middle-level leaders from judicial and justice sector institutions across the region to evaluate the progress made under the judicial and justice transformation plan and identify priorities for the years ahead.
Opening the workshop, the President of the Amhara Region Supreme Court, Honorable Ato Alemante Agidew, said the region’s three-year Judicial and Justice Transformation Plan is nearing completion. He noted that the forum was organized to assess achievements, identify implementation gaps, and chart future directions for strengthening the justice sector.
The President stated that the reform program has brought significant improvements in human resource development, institutional capacity building, information management, and access to justice. He added that the Region’s Law and Justice Institute has been restructured into a center of excellence for judicial and justice institutions and has been entrusted with serving as the sector’s central information hub.
Highlighting efforts to improve access to justice, Honorable Ato Alemante said customary courts have been established in several kebeles to strengthen alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. He also noted that the Supreme Court has established an independent public defense unit to expand legal aid services for citizens.
The President further explained that important measures have been taken to reinforce judicial independence and impartiality. These include the adoption of a proclamation guaranteeing judicial immunity and the establishment of a cooperation platform among judicial and justice institutions, which has significantly reduced undue interference and pressure on judges.
Although encouraging progress has been achieved through strengthened coordination among justice sector institutions, Honorable Ato Alemante emphasized that considerable work remains to meet the public’s expectations. He stressed that sustained collaboration among all judicial and justice institutions will be essential to consolidating the gains achieved and successfully completing the ongoing reform agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
