{"id":134,"date":"2025-03-25T06:38:46","date_gmt":"2025-03-25T03:38:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amhsc.gov.et\/?page_id=134"},"modified":"2026-04-21T09:42:35","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T06:42:35","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/amhsc.gov.et\/am\/?page_id=134","title":{"rendered":"\u12e8\u1320\u1245\u120b\u12ed \u134d\u122d\u12f5 \u1264\u1275 \u1273\u122a\u12ad"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<h2>Brief History of the Amhara Regional Supreme Court<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>\n\n<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:\n&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif;mso-ansi-language:EN-GB\">The establishment of the\nAmhara Regional Supreme Court is related with the establishment of Region 3\n(Three) in the aftermath of the fall of the Derg Regime and the coming into\npower of the Ethiopian Peoples\u2019 Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) in 1991.\nIt is to be recalled that immediately after the fall of the Derg government, a\nTransitional Government of Ethiopia was established in July 1991 in light of\nthe Transitional Period Charter of Ethiopia. Region 3 (Three), the present\nAmhara Regional State, was one of the 14 National\/Regional Self-Governments established\nas per Arts 3 and 9 (1) of the National\/Regional Self-Governments Establishment\nProclamation No. 7\/1992. The Constitution of the Transitional Government of\nRegion Three, Proclamation No.2\/1993, constituted Regional legislative,\nexecutive and judicial organs under Art 21. This Transitional Constitution explicitly\nprovided that judicial power in the Region as being vested in the Regional\nSupreme Court and other lower zonal and wereda (district) courts of the\nRegion.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:12.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:\n&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif;mso-ansi-language:EN-GB\">In accordance with the Constitution\nof the Transitional Government of the Region, the then legislative body (the Council\nof the Transitional Government of Region Three) thus issued for the first time\nin the history of the Amhara Regional State a proclamation that provided for\nthe establishment of courts in the Region. This proclamation referred to as the\n\u201cProclamation to Establish the Courts of the Transitional Government of Region\nThree, Proclamation No. 3\/1993\u201d and which entered into force as of the 25<sup>th<\/sup>\nof June 1993 explicitly established the three-tiered levels of courts as the\nRegional Supreme Court, Zonal High Courts and Wereda Courts. Immediately\nthereafter, the President of the Regional Supreme Court was appointed by the\nTransitional Regional Council and that was followed by the appointment of other\njudges to the three levels of courts.
